Tokyo 2020 which was scheduled to be held from 24 Jul – 9 Aug 2020 has been postponed to 2021. A Joint Statement has been released from the International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee.
A conference call was held on 24 March 2020 (morning) among the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC); Thomas Bach, and the prime minister of Japan; Abe Shinzo, to discuss the constantly changing environment with regard to Corona Virus (COVID-19 and its precautionary measure. The meeting was also joined by Mori Yashiro; the president of Tokyo 2020 Organising committee, the Olympic minister; Hashimoto Seiko, the Governor of Tokyo; Koike Yurik, the chair of the IOC Coordination Commission; Jhon Coates, IOC Director General; Christophe De Kepper, & the IOC Games Executive Director; Christophe Dubi. In the meeting, all have shown their concern about the ongoing COVID-19 & its impact on the Games.
After lots of discussion IOC president and the prime Minister of Japan have concluded that the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athletes, everyone involved in the Olympic Games and the international community.
